{"id":443,"date":"2023-01-04T18:55:18","date_gmt":"2023-01-04T18:55:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pellinstitute.net\/wordpress1\/?page_id=443"},"modified":"2025-01-07T18:59:37","modified_gmt":"2025-01-07T18:59:37","slug":"stella-modeling","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/pellinstitute.net\/wordpress1\/stella-modeling\/","title":{"rendered":"Stella Modeling"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beginning in Unit 1, students learn key systems thinking definitions, components, concepts, and habits that build the idea that <em>systems are made up of elements (parts) whose interconnections (or relationships) determine behavior, and are organized to achieve a goal.<\/em> Through understanding how a system&#8217;s structure drives behavior, we can better design places to intervene for desirable outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Stella Architect<\/strong> is a simulation modeling software that allows students to build models that represent key elements, and define the relationships between those elements in a system. Models help students to make their thinking visible, and can be thought of as a <em>hypothesis<\/em> to iteratively test and refine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>All Hands on Deck<\/em> includes lessons in each unit where students follow step-by-step labs to build simple models, test levers and policies in pre-built models, and in their final <a href=\"https:\/\/pellinstitute.net\/wordpress1\/student-projects\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"45\">Climate Action Project<\/a>, build an original model where they apply a local climate solution to target=\"_blank\">World Climate Simulation<\/a> and test the impact of their climate policies in &#8220;C-ROADS&#8221; a simulation model used by real decision makers. They can also practice their model building skills through recreating this model in a step-by-step tutorial.
